Title: Analysis the usefulness of the method of determining power losses in magnetic materials based on the measurement of the hysteresis loop surface area
Abstract: The paper analyzes the usefulness of the method of determining power losses in magnetic materials based on the measurement of the hysteresis loop surface area. Additionally, the Steinmetz model was used to verify the range of frequency and the induction amplitude, for which this model allows for the correct determination of power losses in the magnetic material. Using the power losses in the core determined with the hysteresis method, the influence of the magnetic flux density on the thermal resistance of ferromagnetic cores was investigated. Two similar-sized toroidal cores made of different ferromagnetic materials (powdered iron (-26) and SM-100 ferrite) were used for the investigation. The obtained results show that the application of the hysteresis method causes even a sevenfold increase in the value of the power dissipated in the core. Calculations using the Steinmetz model are in good agreement with the catalog data for a core made of powdered iron.
